Petticoat & the Stays of Despair

I did a fun project and a freakin’ terrible not so fun project.  The fun project was a petticoat! I found a very straight forward tutorial on American Duchess.

It was great. It was fast, I cut the fabric zip, zap, zam, it was done. Magical. Then I started on the stays. *dun dun dunnnn* I’m thinkin’, ok I bought a pattern for this thing so how bad can it be? I’ll just follow the instructions and it’ll be fine.

Autumn Project

A few days ago I discovered the blog American Duchess and it completely revitalized my sewing spirit. I haven’t made anything bigger than doll clothes in a pretty long time, but I’ve always loved giant 18th century dresses and when I saw the ones on American Duchess and realized the impending arrival of Halloween, I knew it was time! I conspire not only to make a giant frilly dress but to chronicle it’s culmination: hence the birth of Lady Fancyson’s Fripperies!
